We want to share an “inside” journey with you of one of our clients who has done our 6 Week Beach Body Program. You may find her story, or parts of it, similar to yours. But before we take you behind the scenes, we want to tell you a little about us.
Since I was a little girl, I have been dancing, singing or speaking on stage. I was always comfortable with myself until I got into junior high school and learned that I should be self critical and compare myself to others. I got hips and a chest before most of the girls at school so I looked and felt “odd” compared to all the skinny girls.
So for the next 10 years of my life, I battled the negative thoughts in my head as I compared myself to others while pursuing a career on stage and in fitness. This was not easy.
Since I worked in a gym, I felt like people often expected me to look like a bodybuilder. But I didn’t have any desire to look like a bodybuilder! I always felt like in order to reach most people, especially men, I would have to “look the part” first even though I knew my education was much more solid than a lot of the trainers I worked alongside. I was even running the education department for trainers at a top New York City Gym chain with over 300 locations. I was training the trainers! But I still felt inadequate.
When I moved to Los Angeles and started my company, I began a personal growth journey that would change every aspect of who I was. The clients I attracted when I started reflected who I was then and provided me with an invaluable mirror. I learned, because I had to teach it, to love yourself first for who you are, where you are and where you are going. Loving your body and taking care of it is an inside job.
It’s in building a program like this one we are about to share with you that gives me great pride in offering you tools to do exactly what I did ( in much less time!)
I started working with weight loss clients accidentally. I was doing public seminars and traveling quite a bit when I became seriously ill with an auto-immune disease. I had to change my lifestyle and work schedule. When I returned to work, I began to attract many weight loss clients. At first I felt at a disadvantage compared to some of the other hypnotherapists because I had never struggled with weight loss. But as I continued to work with my clients, I realized that we shared a similar and very important experience.
For four years I had been on a profound health journey as I dealt with my “illness.” I became sick because I hadn’t taken care of my body. I was a workaholic; I pushed my body, I didn’t sleep, I often forgot to eat. While most of my clients over ate, I often forgot to eat, because I was so focused on building a career and business at the expense of my body and health.
Once it broke down, like many of my weight loss clients I was very resentful of my body. I resented the time and energy it required from me. I hated the way I looked as my condition had affected my skin on my face and body and I stopped taking care of myself. I wore frumpy clothes and became increasingly anti-social. I felt angry and deprived much of the time. I resented being told that I couldn’t eat certain foods. I was allergic to most food and was on a severely restricted diet. It was only when I realized that I needed to change my relationship with my body if I was ever going to restore my health that I began to get well. My health and wellbeing became a priority and I began to invest the time to take care of, honor and love my body. Ultimately, I realized that my body was my greatest teacher and was constantly communicating to me – if I would only listen. As I began to share my experience and develop tools to help my clients love and honor their bodies and themselves, they began to make huge shifts that helped to increase their self confidence and wellbeing. The more they made their health a priority, the more they were able to lose the weight and more importantly, keep it off.
Let us introduce you to Jennifer Torok. She represents the masses of people who silently struggle, try everything and then beat themselves up thinking it is their fault. She might be like you?
For over 25 years I have been steadily dieting and binging. I started when I was 13 years old, and I am now 40 yrs old. I have danced since I was age 5. I have been a fitness instructor since I was 18 yrs old. I have been a dance therapist since I was 30 yrs old, and I have been a competitive runner.
I have been a client of Weight Watchers and Nutri System. I have done the Zone Diet. I have been a raw foodist. I have done cleanse after cleanse. I have done EFT for food addiction. I have attended OA (Overeaters Anonymous) I have been in therapy, and through it all I was a Special Education teacher.
Always, within these experiences, I have stayed a steady 10-15 pounds overweight, as each night I would sabotage my plans and goals by binging. There were 2 moments of reprieve from this, when my 2 children were born - now ages 9 and 5.
My pregnancies were the only time I easily, consistently made healthy food choices. This was because there was something much "greater" than me called to take care of: my growing babies. With each pregnancy, birth and breast feeding experience I was convinced that I was finally free of my disordered eating. However, within months of weaning each child I found myself back in the grip of dieting and binging. 3 years ago my daughter developed food intolerances that had us in and out of hospitals, and - finally - had me leaving work I loved to care for her full time.
In this experience I discovered the crucial links among weight, stress, depression, digestive issues, and adrenal fatigue. I vowed, for the sake of my daughter, to stop obsessing about my own diet and tend to her whole heartedly. And then I found JJ and Adoley.
I listened and re-listened to the 6 Week Beach Body Program call with JJ and Adoley. Each time my body pushed and edged to grow more healthy, just through their words of wisdom.”
To an outsider, Jennifer looks like a healthy, “normal” person. She was exercising, making good food choices when among other people and has done “every diet” as well as sought counseling! THE JOURNEY BEGINS
Beginnings can be challenging, and this beginning is kicking my butt.
I know that I isolate myself from the chaos of my life by compulsively overeating at night. I am at the starting line. I have finished the brain training, preparing myself to "begin".
Today I write with butterflies in my stomach and emotion at the surface.
I have always loathed programs, clubs, groups. I am not a "joiner" by nature, I am a leader.
I know it is why no diet-nutrition-health program has ever worked for me.
They always lacked wisdom.
They lacked the depth of acknowledging right up front "it's up to you to create your own life."
I never felt the support I truly needed from any other program.
I am called to do this program from a deeper place than ever before.
THE FIRST NIGHT'S CALL:
I have this clear vision of my "childhood basement" that has been running 88% of my brain! wow!
My childhood basement, from age 1-8, was watching my mother be bulimic = starve, binge and purge in front of me. God bless her.
And from there, she would control every single bite that went into my mouth: hiding food, forcing food, taking away food.
Passing on food = fear & pain.
Well, that is QUITE an insight that I am so grateful to get tonight!
I have never understood this so clearly. Words can't describe my gratitude.
To FINALLY understand that I am not "unfixable" or "crazy" is nourishment in-and-of-itself.
I am so grateful
BEGINNING THE DETOX
Yesterday was a hard day. I have gone off of coffee and gluten.
Last night I really wanted to binge to suppress it.
Instead, I did what I actually needed to do. I cried!
Just thinking about it makes my chest tight.
And here is the beauty of it.
Instead of getting afraid of needing to really cry, I actually was able to OBSERVE myself as I cried and this voice came in, crystal clear, saying:
“This is the drama of trauma from your past. You have tried your whole life to control the craziness you lived with as a child and suppress the memory. This is your past and it does not have to be your future. You have to get radically serious about self-care now! NO MORE DRAMA, and repeating the patterns of your past.”
I finished crying right then and there, got up and made some tea, washed the dishes, made the kids' lunches, and turned on the "Evening Relaxation" audio Adoley made.
I listened to the whole thing, and then the "Ultimate Relaxation".
To this I fell asleep. It was like an angel putting me to sleep.
I gained such a clear picture of my need to nurture myself.
I know I will continue to gain a clearer and clearer picture of WHY the gazillion other weight loss programs I have tried haven't worked. For now, what I know to be true is that I am called, from a deep place of personal power in the 6WBB, to be BALANCED!
This is truly the difference that I see today: it is deeply rooted in empowering us to be BALANCED.

JJ'S CALL ON THE BODY
Today, with a lot of humility, I acknowledge the damage I have done to my joints, bones and muscles by over-exercising and fasting.
Honestly, I think about my last fast - 4 days, with nothing but 5 oz of tea a day-my body has been weaker ever since.
(Doing this detox, listening to the calls, and listening to the visualizations are bringing up so much anger and I am SO MAD about my knees being weak!)
I need a good sweat. I will have to try to swim.
I need a good cry. I will call my best friend.
I need to be creating more for myself for the pure pleasure of it and STILL can't find the time to do it.
I know there is some great wisdom in here, but right now I'm just pissed off.)
DATE YOUR BODY
"Look at my body in the mirror, and TAKE THE TIME to give myself compliments?! There's got to be something better to do with my time!"
It appears this whole program is becoming this extended, often excruciating deepening relationship with myself.
Today I started listening to the "Hidden in Plain Sight" teleseminar, along with the hypnotherapies, along with JJ's videos on exercise.
Here is what I know. My hormones are out of wack! (Thank you Dr Peters), my nutrition has been very acidic (Thank you Susan Prudden).
AND my body needs to be strengthened (Thank you JJ)
Thanks to the 6WBB I know it is radical self-care to sleep and restore, and I am blown away by how the outside world is pressing against me NOT to.
That said, I see the crack of light, and it's beaming me with the fact that I'M LOSING WEIGHT! It is saying, thanks to 6WBB "take care of yourself, no matter what!"
I am feeling my enthusiasm build more. JJ and Adoley have such different styles, and I love feeling - so deeply - each of their commitments to help others.
I feel empowered today, getting the tools for monitoring and tracking my exercise.
My body CRAVES more movement.
It calls out to sweat and be taken for a spin.
It craves being worked.
These days I REALLY wish I had a personal secretary and I could just dance, bike, walk and swim all day!t craves being worked.
I AM GAINING SO MUCH ENERGY!
I just watched a video of JJ doing exercise demo. I envy her flat stomach. I envy that she has no pain in her body. Some days all I want to do is comfort-eat to take the edge off my frustrations.
THE LIGHTBULB TURNS ON
After that entry, I switched on.
I had listened to over 10 hours of "Hidden in Plain Sight" teleseminars.
I had listened to Adoley's hypnotherapies for at least 1 hour a day..
I had implemented JJ's exercise program that was preserving my joints and giving me a great sweat.
I was eating the proper amount of protein, and drinking the proper amount of water.
I had lost 5 pounds and yet there was still a sticking point.
I wrote one night, after the meditation.
And then the words came crystal clear
"ARE YOU READY, NOW, TO DATE YOUR BODY"
I got up, went to the mirror and showed up for myself for the first time, to acknowledge how self-absorbed my self-loathing had been. (Thank you Adoley)
It had taken so much energy to criticize myself and try to perfect it.
As I stood, no tears came, just joy.
I complimented every part of my body in earnest.
For the first time I saw the weight of my belly and thighs as strength and wisdom.
The words came "I don't need you anymore, to be strong and wise, but I love you anyway."
The next day I got a call from the school for Nutrition, which I applied to and found out I was accepted, receiving $2000 off my tuition.
The next week I got cast in an improv comedy group. I have been wanting to perform improv again for 15 years.
These are slices of the turn-arounds in my life and I do mean only slices.
I now KNOW my body, like I never have before and with tears in my eyes I tell you for the first time, consistently, since I was a girl, I feel just fine, and often beautiful, just the way I am.
