Who knew that talking about taxes could be this lively?  Meet Roni Deutch – “The Tax Lady” who beats the IRS at their own game, and tells it like it is!

This is one amazing lady and, boy, is she passionate about her work!  A successful attorney and entrepreneur, she’s spent over 18 years fighting the IRS and she’s built a multi-million dollar company doing it.  She’s even giving H.R. Block a run for their money. She started a franchise operation in 2006 and it’s one of the fastest growing franchises in the country.

Most of us don’t like paying taxes and are afraid of the IRS – and with good reason.  If you owe the IRS money, they WILL keep coming after you and take whatever they can.

Roni’s main message was to stop hiding in the closet and face the bogeyman. Education is empowerment. Get some basic knowledge about taxation, learn your rights and discover how to protect yourself.  To the caller who talked about “Voluntary Compliance” and believed we don’t have to pay taxes, her response was simple. “Remember Wesley Snipes – He’s in jail.” The IRS is not going away, you will always have to pay taxes, get used to it, become well-informed so you don’t end up a victim.

She was full of valuable information:

1. Always File your Taxes. File by April 15th or file for an extension.  If you aren’t ready, don’t file. Yes you pay some interest but it’s better than forgetting an important deduction or failing to declare income.

2. Fund your IRA to the Max.  Did you know that the average taxpayer overpays on their taxes by $2000? Don’t use the IRS as your savings bank. You don’t earn interest on that money. Create a new plan for yourself. Claim more dependents on your payroll check, put more away or keep more in your pocket.

3. Take Care of your Tax Bill. If you owe money to the IRS, don’t stick your head in the sand.  The IRS is relentless. They WILL levy your account. If you are a W-2 employee, they will garnish your wages. As an independent contractor, they do what is called a BULK levy. BE PROACTIVE when it comes to the IRS.

4. There is Relief if you Owe Taxes and Can’t Afford to Pay the IRS.
You have three options:

a. Installment Agreements
b. Currently Not Collectible
c. Offer in Compromise

These options are for the taxpayer who can substantiate their claim that they don’t have the money to pay the IRS and wants to work out an agreement.

5. Expect more audits in 2009! The IRS is just like you.  In this recessionary economy, they need more money!  The IRS has announced that they are going to audit small business owners in unprecedented rates this year. Be prepared!

Things that can trigger an audit:

a. Living in Los Angeles (sad but true).
b. Large stated incomes on your return. The IRS then assumes you’re overstating
your deductions.
c. Not reporting W-2 or 1099 income. The government gets these reports from
the companies that employed you.  If you don’t declare the income, THEY
KNOW.
d. Excessive meals & entertainment and automobile deductions.

How to avoid an audit:

a. Keep good records
b. Put money away in IRA’s or Retirement Accounts
c. Take full advantage of legitimate deductions

And that is only some of what she covered on the call. Other topics included levies, IRA’s, Obama’s Stimulus package and how it affects your taxes, record-keeping and much more.

The hour was packed with information that you can find in her book and by listening to the call.  If you missed this amazing call, you can still hear it live over the next 24 hours by clicking here

Recession Fear Buster: Focus on Solutions, not Problems

April 7th, 2009
Are you tired of the steady diet of bad news on the TV and newspapers?

Turn off the TV and read the paper selectively!

Did you know you have over 5000 thoughts a day and that 85% of them are negative? In a time of crisis, you don’t need any more negative thinking. It saps your energy and destroys your ability to think creatively and find solutions.

I’m not suggesting you stick your head in the sand but that you are conscious of your thoughts and YOU CHOOSE where you direct them. There are creative opportunities and solutions all around us. Even in this”recession/depression”.
Did you know that in the Great Depression more millionaires were made than at any time in history? Where others saw loss and lack, these clear thinkers saw and seized opportunities.   I heard a great example of this resourceful mindset recently.

“Tina” lived in an area of Los Angeles that was hard hit by the economic downturn. House prices were down by 50%.  She’d lost her job. They were behind on their mortgage and struggling to pay their bills on her husband’s income.  The wives in the neighborhood would gather and complain about all the foreclosures and the overgrown yards that were bringing down their house values.   Tina tired of the problem and started looking for a solution. She began to think creatively and came up with an idea.  She printed flyers and took them to local realtors offering “her company” to provide maintenance of the yards of these properties. She hired two local gardeners who had been laid off who were thrilled to get the work. She collected and resold all the “junk” that people had left in the homes on Craigs List and EBay. By the end of her first month, Tina had created a new business that netted over $5,000 in income – more than her husband’s monthly paycheck!

Whatever crisis you might be experiencing in your life right now:

1. Believe that there is a solution or way out
2. Trust in your creativity
3. Focus on the solution: “How can I do X?”  instead of ”Why is this happening to me?
4. The Law of Attraction will then go to work on your behalf and lead you to the solution.

As my mentor and minister, Michael Beckwith (The Secret) says: “A good crisis is a terrible thing to waste!

Mary Manin Morrissey: A crisis is your call to grow, change and evolve

April 7th, 2009
Mary Manin Morrissey, teacher, author, counselor and minister joined us last night for the first show of our teleseminar series Hidden In Plain Sight: Secrets of Lasting Financial Health.

This was one of those shows that takes you deep, challenging you to discover a deeper part of yourself that has the power to respond and shape your life regardless of conditions and circumstances. In addressing the current financial climate and the steady drumbeat in the media about financial gloom as tv shows and papers focus on growing unemployment statistics, foreclosures and other economic markers:

1.   Mary didn’t deny that challenging conditions exist in our lives (foreclosure, unemployment, lack of money) but called on us to deny the power of the condition to control our lives.

2.   Regarding the news media and the daily drumbeat of statistics about unemployment, foreclosure etc.  She reminded us that statistics are made up of a GROUP. However, we are INDIVIDUALS.  As individuals, each of us has the power to choose where we focus our attention.

3.  To the “unemployed” caller who was out of work, she reminded her that she was in fact, not unemployed but “self-employed.” Mary counseled her to change the perceptions she had of herself and start imagining her new perfect place of employment.

4.  To the caller who questioned Mary’s recommendation ”not to waste a good crisis”, she gave us a definition of crisis as an evolutionary impulse that calls on us to grow, change and evolve.

5.  Mary encouraged us to view the crisis we might be experiencing as a time of reconfiguration, forcing us to get in touch with the life force that comes from within, rather than clinging to the forms that our lives have taken.

This inspiring call with Mary set the tone for our 9 week series, reminding us that crisis can be a wake up call to our bigger and better selves. She is a living example of this and we felt really lucky to have share her extraordinary story.
